10 Jul MONDELLO: ONE OF THE BEST CITY BEACHES I’VE EVER SEEN Posted at 18:56h in Travel blog by Pamela Goding 4 Comments Share Mondello was a surprise: it’s Palermo’s -one of the biggest and busiest cities in Italy- city beach and I would never expect it to be so beautiful! The water is cristal clear, the sand of a very light shade, scenic hills are surrounding it and in quiet days it feels really like being in a faraway exotic destination. Let’s not exagerate though: most of the times, especially in summer time when schools are closed and absolutely during the weekends, it’s so crowded that you barely can walk your way to the water, and to be honest unfortunately is one of the dirtiest beaches I’ve ever seen. If you can manage to visit during weekdays before schools end, it will shock you with its beauty! Mondello is not only the beach: there’s the main square around which a small village developes with plenty of touristic restaurants, the seafront promenade and an old curious bathhouse in Liberty style, which nowadays still works as a bathhouse but even as a nightclub and as a very fine restaurant. We didn’t dare dining there as we spotted some Ferraris outside and feared the meal would have costed as our accommodation for 4 days… If you are seeking for an alternative to Mondello, you have one just walking distance from it: we ended up in Mondello during the weekend and didn’t want to be swallowed by the crowd, so we basically just turned the corner to find ourselves in a Nature Reserve that looked just as a postcard from Capri!
