23 Mar LAS VEGAS FOR THE TRAVELING HIPSTER

When you think about Las Vegas, I bet the first things that pop into your mind are the infamous Strip, the casinos, the many entertainment venues with their lights and the World famous pop stars performing live.

Althought , Las Vegas is surprisinglly not only this!

Have you heard of Downtown Las Vegas, and the Freemont East District?

Thanks to a multi-million dollar investment, this particular stretch in Las Vegas has transformed into a center for young adults who are into visiting hip lounges, eateries, and stages that present the best in new independent music.

In Fremont East District, tourists can find the Emergency Arts, which is located on the corner of sixth and Fremont. It acts as the center of the area’s arts community, which allows artists to rent work spaces, showcase their wares, and collaborate with other artists. Apart from Emergency Arts, there’s also Beat Coffee and Records, which is widely known as a place that hosts poetry recitals and spoken word performances every Monday. Spoken word is a type of poetry reading where the artist engages the crowd through a series of thought-provoking, often-emotional, lines that do not usually follow traditional poetry rules.

As for those who are looking for a nice place to get souvenirs, there’s a shop called Downtown Container Park, which has a stage that hosts regular live music on weekends and family-oriented shows through the daytime. True to its name, the Downtown Container Park is an ingeniously-designed metal cargo container building that houses vintage stores, as well as a giant 33-foot slide for adventurous folks.

At night, people can kick back and relax at some of the vintage booths that have good drink specials for revelers and a circular fireplace to gather around. The Griffin is one of the most popular places for young adults in the area with a live DJ booth, while The Commonwealth is a rooftop bar that gives guests a nice, romantic view of Las Vegas at night.

The recent investment in Fremont East District has been welcomed by Las Vegas as it needed to reinvent itself given the fact that it is becoming a “dinosaur living in the digital age.” With online gaming sites that are packed with the latest technology in gaming and VIP promos for the most loyal patrons, Sin City is finding it hard to compete. With a sharp decline of visitors since 2007, which is around the time when online gaming became a huge hit thanks to smartphones, Las Vegas needed to target other markets, and one of the demographics it has been enticing over the past few years are young adults who want to experience a vibrant nightlife with the pizzazz of Las Vegas.

This area of Las Vegas is absolutely worth a visit, especially if you are not the average tourist, and are after the very soul of the Sin City!

Have you ever been to Las Vegas?

Did you visit this area?
