19 Feb THE BEST VIEWS OF GRAND CANYON Posted at 19:46h in Activities, Travel blog, What to do by Pamela Goding 10 Comments Share We first arrived at the Grand Canyon after a 5 hours drive from Las Vegas – my first road trip in US! I had my eyes and heart full, full of the red landscapes of Nevada, full of infinite desert, full of the never-ending grasslands of Arizona, full of the wind whisking at my face, full of the sun setting on the woods of Arizona and making the far away snowy mountains shine in the golden air, full of the stars peeping from the peaks of the trees at the National Park when we got lost at last to search for our cabin at the Grand Canyon Village. Yes, we missed the sunset at the Grand Canyon.. We had planned to arrived one day before sunset, enjoy it from some iconic view point, and then have a look around the day after, spending at the Grand Canyon just one night. But instead left Vegas quite late, and stopped under way to sightsee, eat and pee too much. So we ended up with just the morning after on us to explore the Grand Canyon. We booked ourself into a cabin just meters from the Southern rim -dedicated post about the cabin is coming next!- so the first thing we did after getting up at dawn was taking a walk along the rim trail! But enough with my dramas, here are the most fabulous views of the Grand Canyon, and where to enjoy them: SOUTHERN RIM TRAIL The Southern Rim Trail is full of panoramic points, and it’s a very easy and pleasant walk. From this trail originates also the Bright Angel Trail, the track that cuts the Canyon from part to part, taking you to the Northern Rim. We didn’t do this track, as it takes more than one day, but you can find more informations here. Walk all the trail to the picturesque “El Tovar“, where a grand breakfast american style awaits you YAVAPAI POINT According to me, this is the most breathtaking panoramic point of all Canyon. You can simply follow the trail from the previous point in a 40-something minutes hike, drive to it, or take the free Canyon shuttle bus. Don’t snob a visit inside the Geological Museum, where interesting facts can be learnt, but above all great views (included the window view you see above). PIPE CREEK VISTA Another great panoramic point, can be accessed by private vehicle or by using the free Kaibab Rim Route (Orange) Shuttle Bus, departing from the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. The first picture was also shot here. DESERT VIEW DRIVE These are according to me the most beautiful panoramic points that can be observed in the vicinity of the Grand Canyon Village. But if these aren’t enough for you, you can continue on the Desert View Drive for a lot of more spectacular views, including Moran, Lipan and Navajo Point, all the way to Desert View. When to visit the Grand Canyon Peak season at the Grand Canyon is approximately at the end of the summer/beginning of fall, where the temperatures are slowly decreasing. I visited in January, and although there are a lot of cons when visiting during winter, like the fact that some trails (especially the inner ones) are closed, it’s not hard to witness the Canyon white with snow!
