Remember how this blog focuses on bringing to you the best hotels, restaurants and experiences in top destinations worldwide?
Yeah, forget about it for a second.
This post is about Barcelona, but even more about two girls in Barcelona.
We didn’t stay in fancy hotels, ate the best food Spain could offer us, or meticulously explored every alley of the city.
Instead, we somehow survived on tapas and sangria, ended up sleeping in one of the most dreadful facilities -no, even hostel is too elegant- I’ve ever stayed in, and wasted our time laughing like idiots at the beach.
And it was one of my best trips ever.
I was having a Nicole Richie obsessed period of my life, wearing glasses that covered the 70% of my face and ridiculous bandanas, and blowing wages on second hand Balenciagas which I had to resell anyway later on to buy food …
It was also one of my first trips, so we had cleverly thought of booking us in THE cheapest hostel in town, and leave the rest of the budget for shopping.
My early 20ies were a disaster.
Based in our prison pension on La Rambla we briefly explored the “Barri Gotic” the Gothic quarter, spent most of the time grilling at the Barceloneta Beach, visited the most famous attractions such as the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlò and la Pedrera, and found even time to visit the Park Guell, which lies a bit outside the city center.
Risking in loosing all of you readers, here some very poor and laughable pictures and facts about Barcelona.
I guess I will have to come back someday
corners of the splendid “Barri Gotic”, part of the old town of Barcelona
street food and drinks
a dome in Park Guell, the park famous for its crazy architecture
a Bakery shop near La Rambla
and me, wearing a dreadful outfit composed of:
the above mentioned “Nicole Richie look” necessary accessories
a questionable (not to be vulgar) cardigan of 3 sizes more
umm my brother’s shorts?
rubber boots, in a sunny spanish summer day
…
the infamous Casa Batlò and its splendid details
views of “casa Milà” also known as “la Pedrera”
Aaah another shot of these marvelous outfits..
Seriously, what was I thinking..???
mmm I guess you’ve seen better pictures of the Sagrada Familia …..
the Church of Sagrada Familia, incomplete and work i progress still nowadays, together with Casa Batlò, Casa Milà and Park Guell are all architectural masterpieces by Antoni Gaudì, a spanish modernist architect, and in my opinion a undisputed genius.
well we did try at least a paella in a restaurant once…
.. before switching back to noodles on the beach …
Barceloneta Beach
me and my best party/travel mate
this is the only shot of our hostel I dare sharing…
… and this is how our trip ended..
Wearing all of our clothes after a fight unpleasant conversation with the check in lady
who clearly never had a weekend abroad with her bestie ….
This wasn’t for sure one of the best posts of this blog, but for a long time this has been the funniest trip of my life, until some years later me and the same blonde gal flew to Stockholm together, and that still ranks as the funniest trip of my life
To travel is one of the first things that bring joy in my life, but people, they are the most important above all of the others!
Be grateful for the people that surround and love you, the are your life!
I was just in Barcelona in July for a brief 2 days! Its fun to look back on some of our earlier travels and see how the times have changed… our ideas and expectations. Dobbiamo incontrarsi un giorno bella!

Ahahah, I laughed so much when you mentioned second hand Balenciaga bags that you had to resell later to buy food!!! The pictures are beautiful, not at all laughable. Barcelona is an incredible city and there is so much more to see if you stop for longer periods, which is why I’ve decided to come here for a few months. I’ve got an endless list of places that I haven’t visited yet, like a ton of incredible museums…

Hey, from a Thai girl to a blonde girl! I was just in Barcelona and loved it. I think your photo essay above is cool and reminds of the cool, delicious days I wondered around the city this past January.
