LOFOTEN ON THE ROAD: 25 PICTURES THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO PACK IMMEDIATELY

LOFOTEN-106

Visiting the Lofoten islands was for me a dream come true.

But not only for this reason visiting it was like being in a dream: the beauty of this place it’s so astonishing that will literally enchant you.

Cliffs, white beaches, snowy peaks diving into the ocean, fishermen villages made of red wooden houses, wild and unspoiled nature.

To experience the Lofoten at its fullest I would strongly advice to get a car: you can easily rent a car by one of the most reknown car rentals in Svolvaer, or rent it from one of the locals.

I chose the second one, with great satisfaction: I was able to rent a car for 500,00 NOK (approx 65 USD) for one day, without too much paperworks and even without a credit card. When I was done with it, I was simply told to leave the car with the keys on by the wooden cabin where I rented it.

To be sure not to miss a single spot of these amazing islands you simply has to follow the national road E10 that will bring you throughout all them, with many bridges, panoramic viewpoints and incredible sceneries.

The choice of doing it in just one day or in several days stopping in each destination along the way it’s only up to you: I would suggest to choose it based on the time and budget you have on you.

If you don’t have the chance to rent a car you can always joing one of the many touristic tours driving along the islands and stopping at most panoramic stops.

What is the best period to visit the Lofoten islands?

Exactly, when should you visit the Lofoten islands?

Honestly, I believe that the Lofotens are one of those destinations worth visiting in every season.

Here’s a brief list of the seasons divided by what the islands has to offer in each particular one:

October-November: autumn. Snow starts to fall on the islands and days get shorter. Although autumn is not the most thrilling season to visit, is one of the best season to spot the Northern Lights. Did you know it?

Winter: During winter the Lofoten islands are covered in snow and ice while sceneries get arctic and incredibly fascinating. Days get significantly shorter, especially around January when in the arctic region the polar night can be experienced, but during these months the twilights have colors that you can’t even imagine.

March: snow starts to melt and days are getting longer again, while the islands still have that arctic charme. March can be one of the best seasons to visit the Lofoten islands, because of the light, the magnificent scenery, the temperatures and because it’s one of the best season to spot the Northern lights.

Summer: during summer the islands change face completely: summer is peak season here, and they are packed with happy tourists that flocks here to enjoy the midnight sun, a handful of funny activities such trekking, kayak, horseback riding, biking and a lot more, white beaches and pristine waters, and a nature that it’s still unspoiled while much milder than during winter.

Needless to say my dream is to visit these islands in every season :)

But let’s focus on the road trip:

one day. One car. One street.

As promised the mesmerizing beauty of these islands as seen it from the route E10.
